Jeff Chen is a contemporary visual artist from China, currently based in Toronto, and a 2025 graduate of OCAD University’s Drawing and Painting program. His work explores the intersections of memory, culture, and identity, engaging with the traces of both personal and collective histories.
Working primarily in oil, Chen’s paintings employ surreal imagery and collage-like compositional strategies to construct ambiguous visual narratives. Symbols and metaphors recur throughout his work, evoking tensions between presence and absence, and between the tangible and the ephemeral. His paintings occupy a liminal space where psychological and cultural dimensions of memory converge, inviting reflection on how identity is continually constructed, negotiated, and fragmented.
